At this moment
It is 9:53 am. It’s cloudy outside, but my weather app tells me it is somewhere between 79-81 degrees. Perhaps 80 degrees? That would be too easy.
It’s a quiet morning. The girls are upstairs playing. They’ve had a rough, whiny last couple of days, so we’re taking it slow and easy this week. We are, however, starting up school again today, so we’ll see how that goes.
So far this morning I have put in a load of laundry, then taken half of it out when it was done and hung it up to dry on the balcony. The other half gets to dry in the dryer. We had breakfast, I tidied up around the house, and painted my finger and toe nails gold. Sometimes you just need gold nails. What I also need is all of the nail polish I left at home- OPI nail polish (my favorite) sells for $21 a bottle here. Sheesh! So anyone who wants to send me a care package, there you go. 🙂
I’m still listening to French music on Pandora- I just love Juliette Greco’s voice.
Later today, we’ll do school, go to the grocery store, and I’ll work on figuring out what our schedule is going to be. We all do better with a schedule, and especially with most of our stuff not here, I think we’re feeling a bit adrift.
I’m also going to finish The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes today, which I have quite enjoyed. I remember reading some Sherlock Holmes stories when I was younger (much younger) and I HATED them. At that point I liked mysteries I had a chance of solving, and Sherlock’s esoteric knowledge seemed unfair. But I realize now that the reader being able to solve the mystery isn’t the point at all, and I can appreciate them on a different level. (Although sometimes I can solve them!)  After I finish, I have about 5 books all clamoring for my attention. I discovered yesterday that there’s a new book out in one of  my favorite series- the Oscar Wilde mysteries by Gyles Brandreth. It was loaded onto my haunted Kindle within moments. Then I discovered a whole other series (the Cornelius Quaint Chronicles) that looks to be full of pulpy Victorian adventure. But first up is This Is How You Die: Stories of the Inscrutable, Infallible, Inescapable Machine of Death. I am beyond excited about this book, and it took all the willpower I have not to jettison poor Sherlock for this book. It’s the sequel collection to Machine of Death, and I loved that book so much. I can’t wait to start it.
Speaking of my random taste in things, we watched Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters last night, and it was completely absurd and fantastic. I love a movie that knows what it is and totally runs with it. There was no pretense at historical accuracy or high art, it was just madcap crazy fun. It did get a bit bloody for my taste, but again, the violence on the whole was so completely absurd.
There is a teensy gray butterfly flittering around our backyard right now. Just thought I’d mention it.
I’m going to go plan out our dinners for the week so I can go grocery shopping. Aren’t you jealous? 🙂
What’s going on with you right now?
My aunt wrote a Sherlock story:

You are welcome 🙂
I did want to know all about school in Japan; what have you decided to do and how “official” are things? Also, I love you and would love to send you a care package just as soon as I know your address!
